Matt Lockaby is the founder and CEO of Axis HR Solutions. As a labor-and-employment lawyer for more than 17 years, Matt has worked with businesses of all sizes, from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, in a variety of industries, including automotive, entertainment, food service and hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, and retail, and has advised boards of directors, business owners, business-unit leaders, insurance carrier representatives, and HR professionals on the full spectrum of personnel issues that arise during the employment lifespan, from recruiting and hiring to separation, termination, and layoffs—and everything in between.

Matt also helps buyers and sellers manage the complex labor-and-employment issues that arise during a merger or acquisition, often working in conjunction with corporate counsel and the entire deal team to help clients achieve the desired transaction goals, minimize the risks inherent in any integration, and ensure compliance with the myriad international, federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Matt received his bachelor’s degree from Centre College and his J.D., cum laude, from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University, where he was the Executive Editor of the Northern Kentucky Law Review. Matt is an active member of the American Bar Association’s Labor & Employment Law Committee , M&A Committee, and Antitrust Committee, and is a former chair, vice-chair, and secretary of the Kentucky Bar Association’s Labor & Employment Law Section. Matt also has been voted by his peers as a Kentucky Super Lawyer (2022-2023) and a Kentucky Super Lawyer “Rising Star” (2013-2017).

Matt also is a regular speaker on legal issues affecting employers and the workplace, having presented at the Kentucky Bar Association’s Annual Convention, the University of Kentucky Continuing Legal Education’s Biennial Employment Law Institute, and at National Business Institute seminars across Kentucky.
